WE WERE A LITTLE BIT COUNTRY, NOW WE’RE A LITTLE BIT ROCK ‘N’ ROLL
The September edition of Meadowcroft Wines’ Songwriters in Sonoma takes a step toward the rock side. To paraphrase the great Donnie & Marie, we’ve been a little bit country (and a little bit folk, reggae, Cajun & blues) and now we’re going to be a little bit rock ‘n’ roll with Petaluma’s Ashley Allred and Coalmine Spindle and Darwin Meiners both who hail from Santa Rosa for the show set for Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and include a glass of wine. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the Meadowcroft tasting room at 707-934-4090. This is a 21 and over show. Meadowcroft Wines is located within the Cornerstone Sonoma community at 23574 Arnold Drive/Hwy 121.
Ashley Allred is a singer-songwriter who usually goes by the pseudonym “Odd Bird.” She writes music that is soft, pure, and unequivocally sincere using her autoharp and guitar to duet her voice. Her music has the apparent warmth and coziness of a late night with red wine, but also an ethereal, innocent whimsy of a day spent out in the garden, which compliments the simple wonder contained in the lyrics Allred pens.
Coalmine Spindle is a San Francisco native who started his professional musical career with SF indie band Restro Bay Waters and then soon after, the alt-country start up Sterno Sound, but quickly found a home in Sonoma County where he started The Spindles. They eventually became the seven-piece behemoth that was a fan favorite for their complex melodies and driving progressions, and earned a place in the hearts of the Santa Rosa music scene.”
After moving to Sonoma County as a child, Darwin Meiners has been in several bands, collaborated with many musicians and produced/recorded/mixed albums of his own and for others. His latest project finds him teaming with producer David J (Bauhaus and Love & Rockets) and Kevin Dippold (Smashing pumpkins producer/engineer) to produce his first proper solo album. The disc will contain a set of Darwin’s most personal songs. Titled “So Few Comets,” the disc will be available in early 2012.
“Each month we seem to move our Songwriters in Sonoma in a new direction, and this month is no exception,” says Tom Meadowcroft, winemaker and owner of Meadowcroft Wines. “These young performers bring another new dimension to our continuing songwriting series.”
Cheese plates with Charcuterie will be available during the show along with glasses and bottles of wine.
